COMMENTS. This colorful, delightful, 2-panel Yei pictorial weaving has had a rough life experience during its 90+ years since being envisioned by its weaver in 1910-1930. Despite its rough condition, it is a wonderful piece of historic, unique, original, pictorial weaving art --without being restored! It has brought us unending delight each time we see it hanging on our walls. The weaver clearly cared about executing her envisioned design for this weaving because it required significantly more time to create the weaving with the following features: (1) 11 different wool colors creating an attractive, highly detailed Yei pictorial; (2) 5 different synthetic dye batches required; (3) the Yei figures have fine details such as individual fingers on the hands, striped neck covers, detailed rattle features; (4) creating 2 panels separated by a vertical semblance of rainbow bars; (5) varying some of the colors used on the 2 Yei figures. In its prime it was a beautiful, unique Diné weaving art!
With all that hard work to create it, it’s sad that it was not treasured enough to be well taken care of during its 90+ year life.
