Delightful, 80+ year old, Diné-woven pictorial weaving representing the Yeibichai portion of the 9-day Diné Nightway Healing Ceremony, which in traditional Diné culture is performed to heal a sick person.  The weaving depicts "Talking God" leading 8 male Yeibichai impersonators, overlain on a plain field composed of rare, camel-brown color natural sheep wool—a distinctive feature of this weaving.  Yeibichai figures’ feet are pointing ahead, but their bodies are turned 90 degrees towards the viewer. Notice how well developed their calf muscles are, showing their commitment to keeping their bodies in shape to perform well during the Yeibichai ceremony. We admire, love & collect antique Navajo weavings for their awesome beauty and for their unique artistic vision & creativity--they 'move' us spiritually, aesthetically and emotionally.  And we are awed in knowing their creation requires hundreds & even thousands of hours of dedicated hand labor using knowledge and skills inherited from Diné ancestors.

This Yeibichai weaving was included in the 2017 book, Navajo Weavings With Ceremonial Themes, by Rebecca and Jean-Paul Valette:  p.268, figure 6.5.18 “Yeibichai Dancers c.1940s”. This weaving fits the Valettes' definition of the Yeibichai weaving style created in the Lukachukai area of the Navajo Nation.
