Detailed Description. The cuff of this vintage Sterling Silver bracelet by Byron K McCurtain consists of 3 layers of sheet silver, with the cuff tapered in width from 0.9” wide at 1 end to 0.7” wide at the other end. A dull red, oval cabochon is mounted offset from bracelet center, so that when worn, the cabochon is not centered on the wrist, but is offset approximately ½ - ¾” to the side of wrist center. The cabochon is probably a type of coral, but may be Spiny Oyster shell. Hallmark. Hallmarked with a combination of: (1) an early version of Byron’s hallmark image consisting of a black dot overlain by a curve-footed “K”; and (2) the stamped words, “Byron K” and “Kiowa”.

Condition: see photos. Fine surface scratches & blemishes on silver cuff typical of pre-owned, vintage bracelet—visible only upon close-eye or jeweler’s loop examination. Cabochon does NOT have any cracks or other problems. The wide cuff end has several tiny blemishes shown in the photo. Sold in this pre-owned condition & priced accordingly.

Comments Byron McCurtain is well known for his unique and beautiful contemporary designs for Native American jewelry.  This is reflected in this beautiful cuff bracelet.  First, the cuff has a 3-dimensional profile as a result of Byron’s overlaying of 3 separate widths of sheet silver, with the top 2 layers distinctively hand-tooled.  Second, he gave the cuff a gradual tapered width, instead of a common uniform bracelet width.  Third, he fashioned a beautiful dull red cabochon and instead of centering it on the bracelet like the vast majority of Native American bracelets, he slightly offset the cabochon.  The end result is a very unique, distinctive, one-of-a-kind, beautiful “Byron McCurtain original” jewelry art piece.
